First Adventure

Noah had his first adventure today (other than coming home). Today he had his first doctor's appointment at 8:30 am. Mom and dad knew that it would take a little longer to get out the door, but didn't quite anticipate exactly how long! Noah had to eat--then pooped, then pee'd just after the first diaper was changed, then spit up as his second diaper was being changed. So we were all a little late getting to the doctor. But they were all really nice, and all 3 of us really like Dr. Amy Allen. She thought Noah was doing great.

After the doctor, we went for a ride to buy more formula to supplement nursing when needed, and as long as we went to BabiesRUs (wow, I wish we had stock in that!!), bought some more swaddling blankets, wipes for sensitive skin, more diapers.... Laurie finds it amusing that her brother is lost wandering around Target looking for formula and diapers!

Since this was Noah's first trip outside of his house, we let him pick out a treat. Of all the fun things in Babies R Us, he picked out cloths. His father wasn't really insulted that his new shirt says "I LOVE MOMMY" (well, maybe only a little!), since look how happy baby and mommy are together!!

Noah is eating great. We really wanted him to take a nap after lunch, but he has insisted on watching to the Yankee/Red Sox game. Since he can't see well anyhow, we made a compromise and as you can see, we turned him around so he won't be distracted by the screen, but would still let him listen to the game.

We'll continue updating.....

HOME!

Well....we all made it home today! Noah is eating like a star, his blood sugar has been great, his weight up, and he'll see his new doctor for the first time tomorrow morning. He's just becoming aware of the world but we did try and explain the significance of the Yankee:Red Sox game today -- the Yankees crushed the Sox and already he is almost yelling "Go Yankees!"

Notice his special "going home" outfit. Anybody see the pattern? This guy dresses in style...Neiman Marcus' Noah's Ark Collection!

We think Noah likes his new home. But things are different than in the hospital. When we got home, we all had some quality time alone without the nurses interrupting. It's amazing how fast they actually LEARN! (And I think Noah is probably learning things as well! ). For our part, here are some things we've already learned being home less than 12 hours. Though many people tried to tell us some of this, it doesn't mean as much till you have to do it yourself:
1. Now we get what you do with a "Boppy"
2. You eat when you can, not when you want.
3. What happens when you use a diaper that's too big.
4. How 1 kid who barely opens his eyes, can't talk, doesn't walk, can't spend money, doesn't go shopping, doesn't talk on the phone, but yet causes such a mess in the house! Look at this picture 20 minutes after he got home!
5. Batteries are expensive.
6. Why you need more than 3 onsies...a little poop and spit up go a long way!
7. Probably didn't need the fancy fabric on the glider we're using for feeding...as I said, a little poop and spit up go a long way!

I'm sure mommy, daddy and son will be learning all sorts of great things together over the next few months!

Noah is looking forward to you all coming to visit!

Day 4: Still here, and taking requests

Well, we were all hoping to be home today but ran into a little glitch. Noah has been running a low blood sugar all day. It's not exactly clear why, but tonight one of the pediatricians came up with an easy and possibly obvious answer. We should know by morning. If his blood sugar stays up, hopefully we can all go home tomorrow. He is getting his blood sugar checked by having his (very little) heal pricked every 3 hours. He's so tough, he doesn't even flinch! One thing for sure is he's pooping plenty! That's a good sign, unless you have to change the diaper!

David went home today. Finished putting together Noah's new bassinet from Grammy and Grampy, and tried to resusitate/rescue some of our plants. Our petunias were the worst, the coleus is gorgeous and survived, and the Hibiscus from Connecticut has come back from the dead! It has new leaves!! Also found a cricket living in our patio plants that we can put a saddle on and let Noah ride! A bit scary when it jumped out of the plants he was watering.

It FINALLY happened (well, day 4 is not really "finally", but....). David leaned over to kiss Noah's tiny little foot, as Kathy was changing his diaper, and then BAM....urine everywhere! The little bugger got him! And his T shirt, and the bed sheets, and anything else close! He learned....

We ordered pizza for dinner...got a couple extra for the nurses. They've really been great through everything. I'm starving but Kathy won't let me eat til Noah finishes his bottle...I guess this is the beginning of things to come!

On another note, we got a request for a close up. Here are 2........ (Also, we'll try and send them by email).

So the blog started off as something silly, but i'm having some fun with it, and will continue. Note that as you are reading any entry there is a field at the bottom that says "Comments". We think if you click on that you can comment on the entry, photos, etc.... That way we will know who looked at these, and what you thought.....

Noah's fun stuff

We love this picture. His cousins Sarah, Max, Samantha and Benjamin sent his first teddy bear..it's 5 times his size, but look how he loves it! He loves watching the fun balloons his grammy and grampy brought, and the flowers from the Delahanty's, Borges', and his nanny and poppy make his room look and smell great! Can't wait to get it all home!

Wed Aug 16

Look at the picture--found him like this first thing this morning--looks like the little guy sleeps just like his Poppy!

This was an eventful day. Noah had a circumcision today. We opted not to have a briss for a few reasons. Partly, the 8th day would be mid week, families are scattered, etc... It was done by one the obstetricians (one of our favorites) who helped in the delivery, and she broke the rules and allowed David to be there with Noah. I was so proud of him! He cried when she put on the velcro restraints on his legs, and while i'm sure he didn't know what was happening, he held my hand through the entire procedure and otherwise was fine through it all! What a champ!

We had bacon/egg and cheese on a roll (both of us!) for breakfast/lunch, and this was kathy's first solid real food. Since it went down so well, we should be going home tomorrow. I think when we get home I will buy one those really small vinyl pull out chairs, cover it with the oldest bed sheet we can find, put it next to an air conditioner and fan on full strength, and use it to sleep on. It will remind me of the very relaxing nights here in the hospital!

Finally...Noah figured out how to breast feed! I guess you could say "he really sucks", but that doesn't sound right. Got his picture taken today by the hospital photographer, but didn't really want to sit still....was more interested in dinner time.

To get things off to the right start, we're going on our first post-baby date. We're going for chinese food, David wheeling Kathy to dinner....I think that picture is sure to grace one of these "blogs" in the near future!

Thoughts at 3:42 am 8/16

Welcome to our blog. We are not and won't be the kind of parents that have to share every milestone with the world, but it's really late, we haven't slept for 2 days, Noah is crying, and David had this idea to start a blog. He doesn't really know what a blog is, but will figure it out. Those of you reading this probably really care that Kathy finally passed gas, that Noah opened his eyes, has had 3 poopy diapers (I'm told that's a good thing...how can that be a good thing--they just need to be changed!), and will be interested in random thoughts from the middle of the night. Poopy is a great word, isn't it?

It's Noah's day 2. We're in a new hospital room, Room 821 which we take as good omen since 821 is the same as our street address.

Noah was born a few weeks early. But around 8 pm tonight all of the sudden he began opening his eyes (we hadn't really seen them yet). Nursing has been a little issue. He hasn't quite been able to "suck" just right, so feeding has been a problem. But wouldn't you know that tonight at 1:30 AM all of the sudden he seemed to learn how to suck....and to cry! In fact he is crying loud. For the first 24 hrs, he didn't seems to know if he was being held or lying back. He likes to be held by both mommy and daddy--that's been keeping him quiet tonight! But not conducive for sleep. Kathy's amazing. 1 day after surgery, up, changing diapers, and playing with Noah. David still isn't happy about poopy diapers but is really into swaddling. Everyone should be swaddled. That's another great word.

Had a little toast to the new guy tonight...i brought a bottle of 30 year old Ballentine (from grandpa Max), a waterford highball glass, and sat in the hospital room and had a drink. That bottle is saved for really special occasions. I will look forward to sharing it with anyone who cares how many poopy diapers we change!

The nurse just took Noah for blood tests (PKU, etc...), vital signs, etc....
Kathy just blurted out loud that she wants a bacon, egg, and cheese. Somethings never change.

This is our first posting. We will keep all up to date.
